From Ayr to Venice: A Hero’s Journey

There is something magical about being part of a surprise, especially when it spans thousands of miles.

I was contacted by a man in Italy. He wanted to commission a Hero Ring for his partner, a Scottish woman living here in the UK. As we talked about the design, he told me he was born and bred in Venice—a true Venetian! I couldn’t help but imagine how incredible it must have been to grow up in such a historic, beautiful city.

The Long-Distance Surprise

The Hero collection is often chosen for its "perfectly imperfect" nature, representing a unique story that can never be replicated. Once his custom ring was finished—its silver surface molten, textured, and uniquely scarred—I sent him a video of the final piece.

I packaged it up with a handwritten message he’d composed and posted it off to his girlfriend. I remember thinking how a gift like this carries so much weight when you’re apart. I was slightly saddened that he wouldn't get to see her face when she opened it—until he messaged me with a lovely update.

She was actually travelling to Italy to spend Christmas with him, and she had decided to keep the gift wrapped so they could open it together.
