Do you have antique family heirlooms sitting forgotten in a jewellery box? Many of us inherit beautiful pieces that hold immense sentimental value but simply do not match our modern personal style.
Jewellery remodelling allows you to preserve your precious family history while creating a contemporary piece you will actually wear every single day.
Recently, we had the absolute privilege of helping a client do exactly that. We transformed two sentimental heirloom diamonds into a breathtaking, modern masterpiece based on our signature design.
The Brief: Breathing New Life Into Inherited Old Cut Diamonds
Our client came to us with two stunning, inherited old-cut diamonds. Their origins were completely different:
- Stone One: A loose heirloom diamond safely tucked away.
- Stone Two: A diamond originally set inside an antique brooch.

Both stones carried decades of family memories. However, resting in a drawer meant their beauty and history were hidden from the world. The goal was clear: extract these gems from their separate pasts and unite them into a single, wearable future.
The Design: An Asymmetric Twist on Our "Perfect Pair" Ring
To honour these distinct family heirlooms, we adapted our popular, signature Perfect Pair ring design.

A front-facing look at the custom asymmetric Perfect Pair ring, showcasing the beautiful contrast between the two old cut diamonds.
Because one inherited diamond was naturally larger than the other, a standard symmetrical setting would not work. Instead, we leaned into the difference. We celebrated the mismatch by crafting a custom, fluid, waving narrow band.
This organic metal band gracefully sweeps around the finger, cradling each gemstone on opposite sides. The resulting asymmetry gives this bespoke ring a truly distinctive, one-of-a-kind character.
The Craftsmanship: Traditional Claw Settings for Maximum Sparkle
When redesigning antique jewellery, safety and light performance are our top priorities. Old cut diamonds feature unique, historic faceting patterns that look magical when exposed to light.

The side profile reveals the delicate waving band and the secure, traditional six-claw settings.
To maximise their fire, we secured each diamond into a traditional six-claw setting. This open-style setting lifts the diamonds proudly above the waving band. By minimizing the metal around the sides, maximum light passes directly through the stones.
Watch this custom heirloom ring catch the light! The traditional claw settings create an incredible, timeless sparkle.
The final result is a beautiful balance of historic soul and modern fine craftsmanship. It is an incredible, timeless piece of statement jewellery that keeps family history alive.
