Recently, we had the privilege of working with our client, Rachel, to create a bespoke 30th birthday present. She brought us her late grandmother’s engagement ring, wishing to redesign it into something contemporary, wearable, and uniquely hers.
Here is how we transformed three cherished family diamonds into a stunning, modern flush-set ring.
The Design Brief: Modern, Tactile, and Flush-Set
Rachel wanted a design that felt substantial and modern. Her main requirement was a wide band where the diamonds could be flush-set into the metal, rather than held up in traditional claws. Flush setting protects the stones and creates a smooth, snag-free surface perfect for everyday wear.
Because every diamond has unique proportions, a piece like this cannot be mass-produced. This ring was sculpted completely from scratch, tailor-made to fit the exact millimetre measurements of her grandmother's three diamonds.
Engineering the Perfect Taper
Setting stones of different sizes into a flush setting requires precise goldsmithing. To accommodate the depth of the largest central diamond, we engineered the front of the ring to be deeper and thicker.
From there, the magic is in the geometry:
- Graduated Depth: The ring is deepest at the front and gently thins out toward the back.
- Tapered Width: The band pinches in beautifully around the finger for maximum comfort.
- The Result: A bold look at the front that still feels incredibly comfortable and lightweight to wear.
