A customer came to us with a platinum and diamond ring she’d been given as a gift. She wore it often, but when two diamonds fell out, the jeweller she bought it from couldn’t offer a solution she loved.
When she brought it to our Ayr studio, we listened. She told us she wanted to wear this ring every day, and it was heartbreaking to see it missing its stones.
We could have simply replaced the diamonds—but we had another idea. Instead of restoring the ring to what it once was, why not make it uniquely hers?
With two stones missing side by side, we suggested moving one diamond from the opposite side, where no diamonds were missing, into one of the empty spaces, and replacing the other spaces with gemstones in her favourite colour—aquamarine. She loved it.
This repair wasn’t about disguising the ring’s history—it was about celebrating it. Like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is filled with gold, the ring’s story became part of its beauty. What was once “just another ring” from the high street became something entirely hers.
Now, every time she wears it, it’s not just a ring—it’s a reflection of her story, her style, and her joy.
