Per Angeli — The Olive Ring That Holds a Lifetime of Love
Share
This is a really special bespoke ring commission that I’m so pleased to share with you.
A couple from Cheshire got in touch as they were looking for an exceptional piece of jewellery to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. They had seen one of our designer rings online and decided to visit our jewellery studio in Ayr, Scotland, to view it in person — turning the trip into a lovely getaway with dinner at The Bistro and a stay in Park Circus.
A Ring to Celebrate Fifty Years of Love
When we met, they shared the story behind why this particular ring design had captured their hearts. For many years, they owned an olive farm in Italy, a place filled with sunshine, laughter, and the warmth of a village that had welcomed them as family. Now, as they prepare to pass the farm on to new owners, they wanted a piece of jewellery that would hold those memories — a symbol of the life they built there.
The Meaning of “Per Angeli” — For the Angels
Among the many lessons they learned about harvesting olives, one moment had stayed with them. An elderly woman from the village, who became very dear to them, would carefully ensure that almost every olive was gathered from the trees. But, she told them, there would always be one olive that remained — “Per Angeli,” she would say, “for the angels.”
They explained how sometimes an olive would fall but become caught among the branches, suspended in a tender balance of light and shadow. When they saw the design of our ring, it reminded them exactly of that image — the olive cradled in the silvered branches. The peridot gemstone, in its vivid olive green, felt like the perfect symbol of their story.
Personal Engravings and a Perfect Coincidence
To make their piece even more personal, they asked for olive branch engravings on either side of the ring, with the words Per Angeli engraved inside as a tribute to the woman who had meant so much to them.
What made this moment even more special was the coincidence that, earlier that summer, I had planted two olive trees at the entrance to our jewellery studio and had already begun sketching olive leaves for our new gift wrap design. When they mentioned the olive branch engraving, I was able to show them my drawing straight away — it felt like a beautiful alignment of stories.
Why Jewellery Stories Matter
I love hearing the reasons why people choose our designs and the personal meanings they carry. Jewellery has a way of holding stories close — a way to remember, to celebrate, and to honour the people and places that shape who we are.
I feel incredibly lucky to witness these moments, to translate them into design, and to share them with you.
