A Marquise Diamond and Sapphire Engagement Ring Designed Together

Some engagement rings tell a story before they’re even worn.

This bespoke marquise diamond and sapphire engagement ring began as an idea in the warmth of summer and became a proposal at the end of October — a journey that turned a beautiful design into something deeply personal.

From the very beginning, our customer knew he wanted a ring that reflected his fiancée’s elegance and individuality. The marquise diamond became the heart of the design, framed by sapphires that added richness and colour. Through our bespoke process, he was able to see several versions of the ring and explore how subtle changes in proportion and detail could transform its character.

One of the joys of commissioning a bespoke piece is the freedom to shape it along the way.

As the design evolved, he chose to simplify the band to let the gemstones take centre stage and decided to increase the size of the sapphires for greater presence.

To make the experience even more personal, we sourced a range of sapphires especially for him — each with its own shape, tone, and inner light. He selected the exact stones that felt right, choosing both the colour and form that best expressed his vision.

This one was darker in colour and longer and thinner.

This one was more rounded and a mid shade of blue.

This video shows the pear cut sapphire that he chose which has a rounded full pear cut in a rich royal blue.

The entire commission took place over WhatsApp, without our customer ever needing to visit the studio. He was able to approve the centre marquise diamond after viewing a video of it filmed in natural sunlight, which showed its sparkle and proportions beautifully. As the diamond was certificated, all of its details — the measurements, colour, clarity, and carat weight — were clearly documented. Working together online made it easy to keep the plans completely secret from his partner, who had no idea that such a special surprise was taking shape.

By being part of these decisions, he didn’t just buy an engagement ring — he created it. The process became an experience to remember, one that added meaning to the proposal and a story he can now share with his fiancée and their families for years to come.

For many people, that’s what makes a bespoke engagement ring truly special. It’s not just a design made for you; it’s a design made with you. From selecting gemstones to shaping the final form, each choice reflects your care, your personality, and your story together.

My customer proposed on the Mull of Galloway. He send me a lovely message to let me know that "She's in love with the ring." and that they were looking forward to sharing their good news with their family last weekend.
