Handmade Shaped Wedding Rings to Fit Your Engagement Ring
If your engagement ring doesn’t sit neatly with a flat wedding band, a shaped wedding ring may be the perfect solution. Handmade to follow the contours of your engagement ring, shaped wedding rings can be plain for a subtle look or set with diamonds or other gemstones to add sparkle and style.

What Is a Shaped Wedding Ring?
A shaped wedding ring is custom-made to complement the curves, angles, or halo of your engagement ring. Unlike a standard flat band, a shaped ring sits flush against your engagement ring, creating a seamless and harmonious bridal set.
Example: One of our platinum rings was hand-set with nine brilliant-cut diamonds, with the metal carefully shaped to match the engagement ring’s depth. Small claws hold each diamond securely, making the set look like it was always meant to be together.

This design can also come with larger or smaller diamonds. If you choose larger diamonds, you need fewer gemstones. This is an example of a ring set with seven stones instead of nine.

Do I Need a Shaped Wedding Ring?
Not every engagement ring requires a shaped band. Consider a shaped wedding ring if your engagement ring has:
- A halo setting with diamonds surrounding the center stone
- A large solitaire diamond that leaves a gap with a flat band
- An oval, pear, or marquise cut that needs a curve to sit flush
- A princess cut or three-stone ring, where side stones or angles create uneven edges
If your engagement ring sits neatly with a straight band, a shaped ring may not be necessary — but you can still choose a decorative wedding band for a unique, personalised look. Learn more in our blog about Decorative Wedding Bands for Straight Rings.
Types of Shaped Wedding Rings
Shaped wedding rings can be designed in different forms depending on the engagement ring:
V-Shaped Rings:
Perfect for solitaire marquise, pear or halo rings with a pointed fit at the center stone

U-Shaped Rings:
Curves around oval, pear, or round cuts also ideal for three stone rings or clusters.

Curved or Contoured Rings:
Gently hug the engagement ring for a soft, flowing look, ideal for rings with a twist unusual shape.Â

Examples of Shaped Wedding Rings for Different Engagement Ring Styles
- Halo Engagement Rings: Curved bands follow the halo, sometimes with matching diamonds
- Large Solitaire Diamonds: Curved or notched bands prevent gaps while highlighting the center stone
- Oval or Pear Cut Rings: Curves match the stone for a balanced, elegant set
- Princess Cut Rings: Angled or stepped bands sit flush against square edges
- Three-Stone Rings: Shaped bands hug side stones without crowding them

Choosing Width and Shaping Options
- Wide or Narrow Bands: Wider bands make a bold statement and can accommodate diamonds or gemstones; narrow bands feel lighter and complement delicate engagement rings
- One-Sided vs. Both-Sided Shaping: Some rings are shaped only on the side that meets the engagement ring, leaving the opposite edge flat. This allows stacking a straight eternity ring next to it for extra sparkle

Adding Diamonds or Other Stones
Many shaped rings include diamonds, coloured gemstones, or a combination. For example, one bride chose a rose gold ring set with amethysts and diamonds to complement her engagement ring, while her husband’s rose gold band coordinated beautifully with the bridal set.

Shaped rings can also be worn independently. Some commissions include blue and white diamonds or honeycomb designs, showing that shaped rings don’t always need to sit next to an engagement ring.
Alternative Ways to Wear Your Rings
Not everyone chooses to wear a shaped wedding ring alongside their engagement ring. Other options include:
Wearing the engagement ring on the right hand and a decorative wedding ring on the left because the bride perfers how the engagement ring looks without another ring next to it. This opens up options for a wedding ring that tells your story.

Purchasing an additional ring later to create a wider symmetrical set, with the engagement ring in the middle. Some people choose to add a ring to either side of their engagement ring to frame it — creating balance, protecting the setting, or marking an anniversary or milestone in the years after the wedding.
This style of arrangement is often achieved using guard rings, which are designed to sit on both sides of an engagement ring, rather than just one.
You can learn more about how guard rings work, and why they’re sometimes chosen instead of shaped wedding bands, in our guide to guard rings.
These options let your jewellery work with your style, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
