These one of a kind handmade earrings by Christine Sadler were inspired by a trip to the Musee Bonnard in France. The exhibition at the time featured paintings and sculptures of women sleeping. The experience of being in the space was very powerful. It felt like the safest place in the world. A place where women were free from all danger and able to surrender without fear of harm.
On returning home, Christine started to research sleep, its effects on the body and what other artists had said about sleep through their work. A phrase from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar reminded her of the exhibition. "Enjoy the honey-heavy dew of slumber" which describes those who are carefree and without worry.
There is no better way to make heavy honey earrings than in platinum. These handmade earrings are set with two fancy cut yellow beryls which form generous drips of golden light at the bottom of the design. Yellow beryl is from the same family of gemstones as morganite, emerald and aquamarine.
These unique earrings measure 35mm in length. The yellow beryls measure 18mm long by 7mm wide. The elongated pear shaped gemstone is held in a platinum setting with a V claw at the point and two round claws at the bottom. Above them is a circle of platinum 15mm in diameter. On each circle there are three handmade 18ct yellow gold bees with platinum wings.
These are a very special pair of earrings to convey to the person you would give them to that you want them to remain safe, happy and loved for their entire life.
