Ice Cream Pearls!
Share
Pearls are great at any time of the year but they have a special affinity with summer. A gift from the sea, pearls make me think of oceans and beaches, of holidays and ice cream.
Pearls are warm to the touch and they give off a subtle glow.

Their summer personality is possibly why pearls were chosen as the birthstone for June. Pearls are also the gift to celebrate the 30th wedding anniversary. I have just made a few new pearl designs and added them to my website today.
All of the pearls on our website are cultured pearls. I have made a chocolate coloured pearl bracelet and a pale pink pearl bracelet which both look fun stacked together with the lemon pearl bracelet.
A cultured pearl is a real pearl that has had a helping hand. Pearls grow when a grain of sand or other foreign object gets inside a mussel or oyster. Cultured pearls have a bead placed inside the mollusc, ensuring each shell harvested has a pearl inside. This technique was first invented by Japanese entreprenuer Mikimoto in 1893. It was such an important invention that in 1985, the Japan Patent Office selected him as one of Ten Japanese Great Inventors.
Cultured pearls differ from synthetic or imitation pearls because they are real. Synthetic pearls are glass beads that have fish scales glued onto the surface. Cultured pearls are exactly the same as natural pearls except the centre of the pearl, the part that starts the process, is initiated by man rather than by accident.
I also decided to add a new pearl necklace to our Promise jewellery collection. A tree is planted for each piece of the Promise collection that is sold. This pearl necklace has green and black pearls with a green beryl gemstone at that back that is carved into the shape of a leaf. At the front there is a double silver seed pod pendant that symbolises the seed that has been taken and planted to create a new tree.
Today only 1% of Scotland's native forests remain due to them being harvested for timber. The Promise collection is a dream that aims to reverse that trend.

Many of the pearl pieces that I make are one of a kind which makes them extra special as a gift.
If you love pearls and want to know how to take care of them and how to clean them I have a handy blog full of tips on how to look after your pearl jewellery and other precious jewellery items.
I also make one of a kind items by commission for anniversaries or big birthdays. You can see some of my past commissions in our jewellery commissions blog.
You can either shop online for pearl jewellery with free next UK delivery or you can visit our studio in Ayr to see items in person and try them on.
